I'm a single dad of three teenagers who loves electronics. 20 years ago I wanted to learn how to repair but I've never gotten around to it. I'm going back to college to become an elementary teacher. I love music. I have probably close to 1000 records, 300+ cassettes, almost 150 8-tracks (I even have my player hooked into the home theater and enjoy it in 5.1 now and then!) and an untold amount of CD's.
I own a Magnavox console unit my parents had when I was a kid. It's need of some serious work. I went to the length of ordering another table to have as parts for the turntable. It somehow got destroyed in a move my dad made. The tone arm is hanging off and the overhang arm is totally broken. It would be simpler to switch out the tables but the replacement doesn't have 78 as a selection. The 8-track player has seen its better days and the FM radio only plays mono these days. Oh, yeah, the volume control is shot, too. I don't ever play it; I have it sitting in a closet. I want to find someone to work on it when finances get better. So many memories of my dad putting on a stack of 45's on a Saturday morning before breakfast.
I own my parent's first record player, a Philco Q-1562 made in 1966. My dad bought it when he worked at an electronics store in Memphis. They eventually replaced it with a Sears console model and gave the Philco to my grandmother. I gave the Sears model a good going-over as a small kid and my parents invested in the Maggie I talked about earlier. I have fond memories of listening to my grandmother's Hank Williams and Carl Smith 78's on it at her house. I still have the Hank 78's though they're in pretty bad shape. I've had them since I was 7 or 8 and at that age no one knows how to take care of anything.
I look forward to hanging out and maybe learning a few things!
