Rock-Ola Motor and gear lubrication.

As the mechanics of most Rock-Ola jukeboxes I've seen look very similar.
Can anyone list, what to oil and what to grease, with what and what to leave well alone?
I know a few "don'ts" but it would be helpful to have this stuff listed, if someone is willing to do it.
I have purchased a re-printed manual, but there's little in it about "servicing" the mechanical parts.

Yes, I also have the original service manual and parts manual for my Rockola 448. But it does not say what or where to oil. Ron Rich helped me out a couple weeks ago when my gripper arm would not grab the record to return it to the carousel. The oil between the gripper gears that Ron mentioned did the trick. I went into the manuals to look at that area and there is no mention to oil it.

Thanks for that, I did read what Ron said about the gripper arm.
But what about the gear wheels, wouldn't the same oil be too light for them?
And what about the motors? I've read somewhere on here that Ami Jukes have oil wicks on their motors, what sort of lubrication is required for Rock-Ola? It's all so confusing.
For those who live in the USA , Ron must be a godsend if you live within travelling distance.
Here in Manchester England, it's a bit of a jukebox desert.

Send me a ticket (for me and my wife) and I'll bring the oil !! All kidding aside, SAE 20wt. ND oil seems to work for everything except when mixed with certain types of grease, it becomes a "gummy" mess. "Lubriplate" is one it won't mix with ! Ron Rich

Yes, SOME of the gripper motors have an oil hole drilled in the casting about 3/4 inch from the motor rear. It's a small hole on "top" of the motor, filled with felt. I also put a drop on both sides of the main shaft brass bearing. Other motors need to be dis-assembled, in order to oil them. The AC WI motor usually has felt pads that need filling. Ron Rich

Thanks for that Ron, I've had a word with Leon Reader in London who has been very helpful, over several matters as well as supplying a part and a replacement stylus at a very good price.
Anyone in the London area might be interested.

He has told me that the motors on my particular model are sealed units and the best way to look after them is to use the jukebox regularly.
I think that comes under the heading; "what not to do." So I'll leave them alone.
As for using oil on the mechanical parts, I don't seem to be able to find SAE 20 oil.
Ron, what does "ND" mean?
Is there a compatible oil among say, Castrol's range?

I have never seen a "sealed" motor used on a Rock/Ola----either AC or DC ??
"ND" stands for "Non-Detergent". I have been told that "3inOne" brand "motor oil" is available in GB. If so, it will work. Ron Rich

Now has anyone got a copy of a Rock-Ola lubrication chart they could copy for me? I bought a manual, but there was nothing in it about lubrication.

Someone told me they were occasionally stuck to the back doors, maybe it was a local thing. But one would be handy, there seems so much that "moves" and much of it looks like it's far too close to electrical contacts to risk using a can, although using an artist's paintbrush with a bit of oil on it, might reduce the risk.
They must need lubrication and the engineers that visited machines on the road must have had some instructions.

Seems to me I thought I had seen some lubrication charts pasted to the back doors on some Rockolas over the years.

Hi,
Rowe used to post their lubrication charts on the back of the front panel with regards to lubrication. If I rember correctly the late 60's early 70's Seeburg had charts on the inside of the rear door (but these were for layout of control centres etc , not for lubrication)
