You should think about a new cartridge. That one is shot. The cantilever cradle is twisted out of shape and even if you could get it to play the two channels will be out of balance, not to mention the damage you will inflict on your groove walls with the stylus so far out of alignment.

Wow! I have that same model in my kitchen except mine is a lighter finish. There are several cartridges that would work, but make sure the mount has a center hole or try to use the one you already have.

Cartridge Number

Hi Stan,

you're cartridge doesn't look like the original one(s) that Magnavox placed in those Micromatics. Like Thom said, that cartridge looks pretty bad. You can send the picture to http://www.edsaunders.com (attach it to your e-mail after clicking on Contact Us) and he can fix you right up with both a new cartridge and needle for that model. I've ordered several from him (cartridges and needle). He currently has one that you can use in that model for 17.95.

I'll look into all the info you guys have provided!

Tom W,
The ebay one looks like a quick fix.

One needle can do both 78 and 33?

Thanks
Stan

One needle does both 78 and 33 if it is a turnover one with one size on each side.

A single point can't possible play both 33 and 78 withgout causing wear.

78/33 stylus

Make sure you ask Ed if he can get you a 78-33 1/3 if you plan on playing 78s. Nowadays the new needles manufacturers simpley put a diamond .07 mil on one side and a saphire .07 mil on the other side of a flip over needle. You will need a .3 mil for you 78s. The .07 mil (LP) will ride on the bottom of the groove of those old 78s picking up a lot of noise along with the music. The difference is quite audible. It will also destroy your needle and your record as it bangs into the groove walls. Good Luck!
