problem rockola 478

I have a 1978 rockola mystic 478. It powers up but the records keep spinning for about 3 revolutions and then stop after you enter a selection. Once I enter my selection, the number goes away and another number flashes upon the screen. It was playing fine until about 3 months ago. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

First thing is, it would appear that the unit cannot find "home". Whether the optical encoder is not operating properly, the logic board is not processing the signal, or the wiring / connectors in between are faulty will be the determination to be made. Start with the simple things like the edge connector on the optical board, checking for tarnish on the pcb or flattened connectors in the harness housing. Then check the same signals at the logic board. Work your way up in complexity from there.
Do you have a manual and / or the schematic for this machine?

Respectfully,

David
