Cleaning WOM Buttons

by ds100h » Wed Mar 21, 2012 7:57 pm

I decided to clean the plastic portion of the selection keys on my Seeburg DS160. I made the mistake of removing the Selector Key Bearing Strip while the Selector Assembly Panel was still mounted in the phono. Of course all the selector key springs fell out before I had the opportunity to view the proper placement of the selector key springs in the Selector Assembly Panel. Of course the manual is of no assistance in figuring out how the selector key springs should be placed back into the assembly panel! Fortunately, that problem is now resolved!

I am now going to clean the keys on my Seeburg SW160 WOM. Before I attempt this, and wind up creating unnecessary additional work for myself again, I thought I would ask for any hints to make the job easier that someone may be able to offer me.

It is apparent to clean the plastic properly, the buttons need to be separated.

Is anyone aware of the proper way to disassemble the buttons for cleaning the plastic and if so can you explain the proper way to do this?

Thank you in advance
Darrell

Darrell,
IMHO, I do not like removing the buttons from a WOM, as they were really designed to go "on, and lock on", only once.
IF, you remove them, do so very carefully/ slowly--- You may need to glue them back on, if the "locks" break off. Be 100% sure to support the posts--in both directions. And--of course, if someone's already glued them on, it's much harder to remove them--
What I do is just spray a good (plastic safe, water base) cleaner onto the buttons, allow them to soak, then brush them, and rinse with warm water-- Ron Rich

Ron

I suspected something like that, as it was apparent they cannot be separated cleaned as easily as the actual phono bottons.

I have some NOVUS plastic and scratch remover (#2 & #3) and clean and shine (#1)

I think I will just leave the buttons intact and use this product to clean up all the areas I can reach.

Thanks for the info. I sent you a PM, but it is stuck in the outbox?

I copied and sent it to you email address.
