Looking for a specific Magnavox Console series from 1959 to 1961 - the Concert Grand - or Magnavox Imperial models. Some consoles have "Imperial Micromatic" shown on the record changer, but that alone does not make the Imperial series.

I know what kind of console you are talking about, and weren't they magnificent. I always figured they didn't call it Magnificent Magnavox for nothing! Anyway, a friend of mine has a console like you are describing, I believe it was made in either 60 or 61, somewhere around there, It's a French Provincial Imperial model, I haven't seen too many out there like it, they are extremely rare. I know no one who has the concert grand, but I heard they were wonderful and were top of the line. I myself have been looking for a console like that for a long time. The console my friend has plays magnificently and is the most beautiful piece of furniture I've ever seen. But, unfortunately she isn't interested in selling it. I just wanted to wish you good luck searching for one!
Maybe your stereo was manufactured in 1963. Only the Imperial models where made in 1958-1961. When I talk about the imperial model, I am talking about a stereo where the top lifts up(like the concert grand) there are no sliding doors on top. I like these better than the one that I have, because it's easier to put pictures or a nice lamp on top of it. In the imperial model, the turntable and the tuner are not revealed by sliding doors.
Your stereo may have an Imperial Micromatic turntable in it. Magnavox put the Imperial turntables in their most compact models made from 1958 to 1964.
A way to find out the date it was manufactured is to take the back off and look on the tuner chasis. Their may be some stickers on it also.

Hi I have a magnavox brochure that is from 1957 and shows nothing but mono units, the first page shows the concert grand stating that it has 2 15 woofers and horns. It does not mention stereo at all. I found a picture of this exact model on the magnavoxfriends website. I dont know if it uses 2 power amps or just 1. then ive seen the 58--61 add about it having the 100 watt, which would use 1 power amplifier per channel. good luck in your search. rjh

There were no stereo 1957 model record players.
The Westrex 45/45 stereo record was perfected and released in 1957. So the first models with stereo record players would be 1958 models.
Stereo FM was approved by the FCC in 1961, so any stereo made before then was wired for the experimental two-station systems.

My parents have a Magnificent Magnavox Imperial Romana model 4125 and the original catalog from the Music Showcase in Boulder, Colorado. They are interested in selling it. I have no idea yet how much this would be worth. I scanned some of the catalog and sent it a friend who collects antiques to see what he thinks. Please advise how much you think it may be worth. If you are still looking, I just saw a 1958 Concert Grand model yesterday. I am not sure of the exact model, and couldn't find a picture, but it had vertical louvered panels on the front and sliding glass panels on the top and front that were reverse painted to look like wood grain. The condition was amazing and it sounded wonderful. Included service records and accessories. Located in St. Louis at The Future Antiques 314-865-1552.

My wife and I cleaned out her Grandparnts home and have a 1959 Magificent Magnavox sterophonic High Fidelity with long life diamond stylus. It is in excellent condition.

That is incorrect. Imperial models DO indeed have the sliding lids. My 1962 Imperial came with the original brochure from Magnavox advertising the Concert Grand, Imperials, and the Stereo Theatres (TV/Stereo Combo).

This one has the optional FM Stereo Multiplex Adapter. It was given to me in exchange for repairing a 1957 Magnavox portable.
The "Imperial" line (tube amp) became the "Astro-Sonic" line (Solid State) in 1963.
