MOD NOTE -- THIS WAS SPLIT FROM THE PACKARD BELL RPC-39 THREAD:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I stumbled over this forum this weekend after purchasing a Packard Bell off of Craig's List. I am not sure of the exact model number, but I believe it is a 90, 92, 94 or 100. I'm guessing this because I found an old repair manual in the cabinet that has those model numbers. When I picked it up, the previous owner couldn't get any sound out of it. I bought it anyway figuring I could do some trouble shooting and figure out the problem. After taking the back off, I noticed a reset button, which solved my problems real quickly. I tore the whole unit down to remove dust, polish the metal on the turntables and the AM/FM Receiver, and replaced all the burnt out light bulbs. While doing this I removed the turntable to see why it wasn't working. After taking the platter off, I noticed that the motor spindle had ground a divot into the black wheel that touches and spins the platter. Every time that little wheel spins and hits that divot, it gets stuck. It also doesn't seem to grip the metal motor spindle anymore. Is this black wheel supposed to be rubber, and mine has dried out enough to be plastic like? What is is called, and where can I get another one?

Another problem is that the AM/FM plotter is WAY off and needs to be calibrated. The last time I did something like this was on an old flip clock radio. I'm assuming there is a way to adjust it as there was on my flip clock, I just haven't had time to look into it. Any tips?

Also, I don't know if it would be useful to any of you, but I'd be glad to scan the repair manual and upload it. I know finding technical documentation on some of this older equipment can be difficult, so if you would like to see it, or could use it, let me know.

Lastly, this thing is awesome. That is all.

Thanks in advance,

Tom
