wurlitzer 3700 selector pin magnets do not function

by james1953 » Fri Oct 24, 2014 12:39 pm

I have a wurlitzer 3500 which plays only if i manually trip the pin for a record. selector keys stay down , magazine rotates but does not stop, selector pins do not pop up. if i manually trip a pin the selector keys reset and record mag stops, plays record , returns record, scans but does not stop at home position. does the timing board control the electromagnets which pull the selector pins??? checked and cleaned all connectors
all fuses and ckt breakers checked, replaced all triacs as per manual instructions for problem. any help would be nice.

Hi James,
I have limited experience with 3400, up Wurlies, but every time I have seen this problem, it has been because of the "contact fingers" on the ES not making good contact. IMHO, that's a "stupid design"--allowing "dirt" to fall on the upward facing contact disc. I have had good luck "dusting it", first, then cleaning it with Deoxit 5.
As for the "not homing problem"--seen that too- ALWAYS is a dirty "scan control" unit up top of the mech board to the rear, right of the basket--caution,IMHO, contact blades here are to thin, and bend easily-do not attempt to "adjust" them, till after you have the whole mechanical portion working correctly-- Ron Rich

selector keys are down, recorder does not turn but hums, switch to scan rotates twice and stops at home. no selector pin up. will play if manually tripping pin and put in scan then back to play.

"Hums", you say--I hope you like that tune, as that indicates the motor,and/or gears are jammed. If left like that for too long, you will hear a siren--as someone will have called the fire dept. !
To "cure"this--find and saturate the oil holes (felt inside--use a lot !) on the motor, with 20 wt. ND motor oil, remove all of the plastic drive gears, clean the metal shafts, and the plastic "holes", and oil them with the 20 wt. too-- Ron Rich
