Thoughts on free play Wurlitzer

I started to post this to the 'DS 160 So close' thread since it came up on the last posts but did not want to hijack that thread. I have a Wurlitzer 2150. I have heard of a couple of ways to set it to free play. However, I'm not particularly comfortable with the approaches. In all cases, it seems to be adding mechanical and/or 'electrical' stress to a system in a way it was not designed to handle. I'm probably being paranoid, but for now, I have it setup for 6 plays per quarter. Plus this way, I figure I can help fund this restoration. (Right now, I figure I just need 62,516 plays to break even)

Anyhow, thoughts on freeplay for the Wurlitzer 2150 (rotate spring onto the other side so it doesn't decrement, adjust the leaf switch to always remain open, other options?)

I've had my 2150 set for free play 20 years using just that method, and sometimes it's on for a whole weekend. The top gets warm, but it would seem that these don't burn up the coil the way Seeburgs are known to do.

No expert here, just relating what works for me.

WurliTzer used a "constant duty" coil for their "latch bar"--IMHO, no problem just to flip the spring, or on the electronic BO/AC's, jumper it--I have heard that some people suggest changing the resistor from a 5 watt to 10 watt unit, to reduce heat, however, I have never done so-- Ron Rich
