Seeburg HF100R

Hi. Can anyone help with the original finish of the side panels of the HF100R. It was a pale finish but was it grained or plain. If you have pictures of an original unrestored side I would like to see them. Thank you. David

Sir,
http://www.victoryglass.com has a trouble shooting guide that will help you through this particular problem. You could have a problem with the trip switch or myriad of others, the trouble shooting guide will recommend adjustments for many problems.

I just finished troubleshooting mine. It was the trip switch not opening. The switch is supposed to be NO and closed when the record is over. Mine was closed all the time rejecting the record as soon as it was picked and the needle placed. Now, my next problem is to find one of these switches. I'm going to try and repair this one first.

I have a 1954 R as well, try checking the record reject switch on the back of the cabinet,if it gets stuck in the pushed in position it will do what you are describing

You should be able to find a replacement trip switch very reasonably on eBay. I'm sure I have one if you are unsuccessful.

The cabinets of Seeburg phonographs from the 1950's were covered in a product called Di-Noc, sort of a specialized "veneer" that was actually a decal transfer. It was a 3M product, and is not easily available in the USA any longer, or at least certainly not in the patterns we need for restoration. The way we restore these cases now is by false graining them, and obviously it is very expensive if you can even find an artist that can do it well. The sides of the HF100R were bleached white mahogany, and burl walnut sections. I do have photographs of Seeburg original finishes if it will help you, but if you remove the side speaker rings or boomerangs, and also the front chrome from the sides of your keyboard, you'll see original untouched finish remnants that haven't seen the light of day since 1954.

Could be the trip switch is energized all the time or clutch needs adjusting. Aggravating I know. Process of elimination - Is it electrical or mechanical. Trip solenoid could be bad. Try all the clutch adjustments first and then if that is no good, then it is an electrical problem in the trip circuit.

Guy's--note this is a two year old original post, and probably should have been under "jukebox"---
Easy method of determining the source of the problem (mechanical or electrical) is to select a record, allow mech to pick-up the record, then hold down on the (Detent) release lever. If it rejects without energizing the coil, it's mechanical in nature.
Word of caution--that switch is a "special low pressure" type. The "ebay" ones (sold as "model C switches") look OK---except that they have three contacts vs. two, and a plastic (white-Nylon?) vs. metal actuator, and may need much more pressure, or more or less "stroke", to operate then that system uses.
Switches were made for Seeburg by at least two different sources--MOST-- can be carefully dis-assembled and "re-hab'ed" Ron Rich

Before you replace that trip switch, check the screws. The switches rarely fail unless they are abused, but if the screws that hold the switch stack together come loose, the blades will come together under tension from the wires.
