Spam warning !

by Ron Rich » Mon Jan 11, 2016 6:11 pm

VHi All,

"Someone" just sent me an email, that is supposedly from Freddy Bailey-- I would bet my "bippy" ( iffin I I knew what it was, or had one ) that this is spam --I doubt Freddy in in Manila, looking for "funds" to pay his hotel bill. (For those of you who don't know Freddy, he was very active in the jukebox biz for years)

Hi Ron:

That's NOT spam! What happened was that your friend's email account was hacked and someone stole his password and address book contacts. Most likely, that same email was sent to all of his contacts, and possibly others.

Your best bet is to BLOCK his email address, so you won't receive any more of these messages, or other ones that could contain malware. After that, telephone or write to your friend and let him know about this. (He probably already knows, but do it just in case.) He'll have to deactivate his email account and set up a new one with a new password and email address. (If the email message you received from him contained any jumps that you clicked on, or any files that you downloaded, you'll have to do the same, in addition to running a full scan of your PC for malware.)

Hi Joe,
Yes--It sorta is that way--this came from his "name", but no email account he has ever had--someone's using his name, with a phony account ID--I have another friend, who's email has been stolen--no matter what he has done, he can not stop the k-rap that keeps going to his friends, and HIM--he uses a "code" when it is really him --Ron Rich

Most if not all the jukebox forums have been posting similar messages, so it does appears that someone has got hold of Freddies email address book.

Alan
