The accepted definition for 'scanning' is that after replacing the record back in the magazine, the carriage moves back and forth looking for the next selected record. If if does not scan, check the play control contacts in the selection receiver. These are the contacts that are closed by a solenoid when a record is selected, and opened by the second pulse of another solenoid when the carriage gets to one end of the magazine. I believe there is also a mechanism motor fuse in this model; I don't have the schematics handy, since I am currently at my place of employment.
If the motor stops after the trip solenoid energizes to begin the transfer cycle to replace the record back into the magazine, this would indicate that either the motor capacitor on the mechanism carriage is faulty, or the switch on the mechanism that connects the second capacitor section to the motor is dirty or misadjusted.
