How to properly clean and oil a Zenith C-9024 mini turntable

Hi,
I'm glad I stumbled onto this forum. It seems to be one I am confident with asking questions.
I'm mechanically inclined and have experience with soldering,etc. So working on this turntable should be fine.

Ok to the point. I found a small Zenith C-9024 turntable that seems to work pretty darn good. I would like to clean it and not oil the wrong parts. I have been reading here how some things NEED to be dry on some turntables.
I can't find much info on these and I have no idea what those manuals they are selling for it have in it. It might be two pages of English and 20 of other languages. Hahaha

I did buy a new needle for starters. Thanks ahead of time for reading.

Most of the BSR idler changers used the same mechanism and just scaled it up with linkages for the full-sized models, so check several models for more complete service instructions.


These were cheap changers, but they did hold up well and need little in the way of service. Essentially, a drop of light oil on each motor bearing. Another drop on the idler bearing and several on the turntable shaft. If the silicone lube is still nice and viscous on the cam and gears I'd leave that alone. A drop of light oil on the tonearm vertical bearing -if- it appears sluggish.

The main areas to keep clean and dry are the linkages from the tonearm to the trip mechanism.

Rob thank you! I appreciate the help and the time you took to share the links. I had a mishap with an old Zenith turntable (I forgot the model right now) direct drive with a strobe from the late 70's. It sounded excellent to me. I bought it with a set of big Allegro speakers and a Zenith MC7051 Receiver. This I bought when I was in my early 20's and would knock things off the shelf. Well I screwed up. I didn't play the turntable for a LONGTIME. It FROZE UP. Lesson learned. So this little cheap Zenith will have to do for now. Thanks again Ron.
