ROCKOLA 453 ISSUE

by BILLSMITH » Sun Jan 08, 2012 10:23 pm

Hello All,

Just purchased my 1st Jukebox (1974- Rock-Ola 453).......have wanted one forever. I purchased it from an Antique store.....sounded good in store. Ordered 50 new records and was fired up to start listening to it.
One getting it home I noticed a terrible thump, thump, thump noise as soon as the needle hits the record. When the singing starts you can still hear it in background, but it's really loud before singing starts and after it ends. Any guesses on what this could be ?? Would love to not have to call a service man already.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Just a guess--a flat idler wheel ? Does it " thump" at the turntable (Lift the tone arm and listen) ?
