Seeburg SS160 won't scan?

Hi all, I just picked up my first jukebox, a Seeburg SS160. It will not scan. It seems like the pickup arm is stuck in one of the record slots. Is there some way to force the mechanism to go back into its correct position so that it will scan?

Thanks a lot!!!

Derek

Hi Derek,
Welcome--love your "posting name" !
Did you read "Atten. Newbies" above ? Please do so--
You need to use the Service Manual terms--as doing so helps us to understand your problems--
If the Record Lift Arm is into a "slot", the Clamp Arm Disc, should be against the turntable(TT), and pushing the Tone Arm in to the TT should cause the trip coil to energize, thus shifting the mechanism from Play, to Scan position. If that does not work, try the "reject button" on the outside rear of the cabinet-
If that still does not work, manually lift the Detent Release Lever, on the mechanism.

Ron,
I did read the newbies topic. I only have parts of my manual but I have read what I could.
What you said is correct. When I place the tone arm against the turntable it energizes the coil but doesn't scan. Where is the detent lever you mentioned? Can you give me a pic?

Thanks!
Derek

Derek,
The detent release lever is what "fly's up" when the coil energizes. Sounds as if you have a mechanical, clutch related, problem-Ron Rich

After I did some more looking I assumed that lever was the "detent" lever.
The machine worked just a few weeks ago. When I picked it up yesterday, I did not try it out before leaving but is there a chance that I could have jarred something in transit? And if so, any idea what??

Thanks,
Derek

Derek,
If not properly "bolted down for transportation", ab-sol-lut-ley ! Especially if you put it on it's side, or back--
What ?? is the question ---I can't answer--sorry, but I fear you are going to need to hire a "pro"-- Ron Rich

It was standing up the whole time. Tilted back at times (as it was on a dolly) but never laid on its back or side. Any ideas of things I might check for?

Thanks,
Derek

Derek,
Sorry no--I would need to see it--or for you to have a better explanation of what exactly was happening--

Alright Ron, I now have gotten it to scan. It scans, picks up my selection, the tone arm hits it, it "buzzes" twice, and immediately puts it back. Any suggestions?

Thanks!!
