Hello, this is Microsoft. Your computer is generating serious error codes...

An old scam is making the rounds again. This afternoon, the phone rang and I picked up and was greeted with what sounded like a computer generated voice, stating:

"Hello, this is Microsoft. Your computer is generating serious error codes. Please press 'one' to be connected with a Microsoft engineer..."

This is actually the same-old, same-old scam that first appeared about seven years ago. At that time, a live person delivered the message, often with very humorous results, but I won't go there....

Scopes does a good job of describing the scam -- http://www.snopes.com/fraud/telephone/microsoft.asp .

I'm sure, by this time, most people are familiar with this, but I thought I'd post about it, just in case....

Personally, I don't understand WHY these scammers even bother.
Do they depend on the "clueless" and "weak-minded"?

I usually have fun with those "Microsoft" guys - until I piss them off enough for them to curse at me and hang up.
They're SO pathetic.

Hi All,
I have not received that call in a long while, but have just been plagued with calls from the "PCH" sweepstakes, telling me I won x number of dollars, and the truck is just an hour away with my cash money ! All I need to do was to wire (various amounts ) from $99.00 to $250, NOW, to ----My wife took one and told the "gent" that we were not interested--he got real nasty with her, mentioned a gun, and how he would blow her away with it.
An hour or so later he called back and I answered--told him I was rich, and did not need his crummy 1 million dollars-
he told me he would come over, shove the gun uppa my --- and kill me. I called the cops on that one--nothing they can do--we left town for a few weeks, and just left the phone "off the hook"--got rid of most of them--till the other day, and now we have won the "Reader's Digest Sweepstakes"--can you believe it ? Quite possibly these scammers - and the threatening ones that called you, are part of the terrorist funding crew.
Who knows?
I'd have called the FBI on that PCH creep, and have the call scoped out.

The other day, I took a few photos of my friend's new Chevy Equinox after he gave me a ride in it.
It's odd, but minutes after that, I got a"shop around" email to "search" for SUV's....
Big Brother?
1984?
Weird.

Guyz,
My wife informed me that she got a call from one of these "scum bags" yesterday telling her she won, and that if she lived alone, this guy could come by in the next few minutes, BEFORE the truck with her money arrived, to be sure she was safe ! Weren't that down-rite wonderful of him ? She told him she lived with three German Shepherd dogs, who had to be muzzled before he could come in-- He hung up, without even axking for the address--Imagine that ! :?:
