Does it have the Magic Mind?

Yes, it does have the Magic Mind. Such a great feature, too. Also, sitting on top of the console is the Webcor "Aural Balance Remote" which lets you conrol volume and balance for both units at once. The "remote" has about 15 feet of cord attached so you could adjust balance from across the room.

That is just toooo sweet!!! What speaker line up is in the main unit and is that Stereo-Mate a self-powered speaker? Oh wait...My Aunt Helen had something like that, but it was larger. I think the main unit sported a 15" plus midrange and tweeter and the satellite unit had a 12" plus midrange and tweeter. It had some type of glossy ebony finish and it was LOUD! The extension speaker by itself was enough to shake the furniture and possibly harm small children...LOL. I can't remember if the main unit operated in mono by itself and you had to use the extension speaker to get the stereo separation.

I'll have to check the speaker line up on the console...something like a 9" and two 4". Still lots of sound for a smaller unit. The stereo-mate is self powered with the following specs: 30 watt power amplifier. Three speakers; 10" woofer, 6" mid-range, 3 1/4" tweeter with crossover network. It was available in mahogany, blonde, ebony, and walnut finishes. I wish it matched the console, but this is the only one I've seen, and had to wait two years for one to show up on ebay!

You are right with the stereo/mono set up. Without an external speaker/amp, the console is a mono unit on its own. It uses a Sonotone 8T cartridge, but with 3 terminals instead of the usual four. Overall, it is a pretty good set up but has a couple of limitations. The stereo-mate has its own volume, but no treble/bass control. Also, when connected to iPod or internet through the main console, only one channel is distinguished and played through both units. I think it's is a pretty neat example of early stereo reproduction, which was much better resolved in the coming years.

I do remember that Stereo Mate self-powered speaker. My Aunt let me bring it home and who knows what I plugged into it, but it was very loud. Her main unit was larger with shorter legs and I think the turntable had been swapped out. I don't know what was put in there, but the treble would make your ears bleed...it was a very clean sound though and still had plenty of bass.
