TONE ARM POSITION HELP

by deash » Wed Jun 08, 2011 6:27 pm

Can anyone tell me how to adjust the tone arm on my Ensign (Admiral) EN406-1 record changer...the problem I'm having is the tone arm starts the first track
a couple of seconds in unless the first track has a extra long lead in wax, but most records the tone arm drops into the music...also the tone arm on return
misses the dead center of it's perch by a 1/4 of an inch.....any help would be appericaited...thanks.

Hey Deash,

Lift up the tone arm and you will see a screw. Turn it slightly counter-clockwise (I think) to make it drop more toward the outer edge of the record groove. That's how those type of turntables operated. This is just an example from my Zenith portable.

Oh, and while I'm there, there should also be some type of adjustment to adjust the stylus pressure. Flip up that arm and take a look-see. Some have a hole where you can adjust it, while others have different steps where you adjust the spring on different notches in the arm. That copper spring provides the counter-balance for pressure. The black screw to the left of the copper spring adjusts the height of the arm during the change cycle.

So you see, there are several adjustments under there for height, record drop-down and pressure. Give it the hairy eyeball and it will make sense. --BB

Ya lift the arm up.
there's a long, thin, treaded screw horizontal... screw head to the left.
1/2 to 1 turn at a time and test function.
The Internet is a marvelous thing, however it's not a good substitute for actually being there.
