tone arm

by highlander68 » Mon Mar 16, 2015 4:03 am

I have a problem with my records they start to skip shortly after they star playing at first I thought it was a scratch but it happens with every record, I sent away for a new needle thinking the old one was done but it didn't make any difference
I have tried adjusting the tone spring in different slots but that didn't stop the record from sticking can anyone help I have the Rockola 448
Thanks Bill

Bill, this has come up so often that it makes sense to start by reading this thread:

Hi
Its possible that the tone arm cable igetting a caught on something or the cable has hardened with age and is too rigid.

The most likely faults are, in my limited experience of the problem.
The tension spring under the tone arm has become detached from the little hole where the hook goes in.
The pick up wires just behind the cartridge have been dislodged and are hanging down and are touching the record.
The jukebox has been moved and is no longer level. Check with a spirit level placed on the turntable.

I expect others can think of more reasons.
