Anyone have info at a RCA Victor "New Vista" model VJT77S looks like it was a possibly a high end model, turntable even has a varible speed adj and strobe.Im guessing mid 60s, It does show the pre-1968 rca emblem, lid says victrola on it?? Very big and heavy too! Got it for $10.00

Your console is a large one! SAMS data 981-6 is dated 9-68 so it could be a 1967 model. It should have a manufactured date on it. It has a tuner, amp, and pre-amp chassis. I would say it cost some big bucks when new. If the speed control (pot) is working well that's a real plus. The output transistors are RCA SK-3009. I would operate this on a variac in increments of 30 volts for about two hours each thru 90 volts before applying the 120. Lots of caps. And I would not push it too hard for a while. Your horn speakers may be Jensen. Not bad for $10.00.

Thanks Shedradios!!!especially for the sams #..I have already been using it,but not anymore until I do some recapping .Year sounds right 66-68 was what I initialy thought.It is 73" long has 1-15 air suspension woofer (cts magnavox style basket)with a huge alnico magnet on it. 2 horns per channel (not jensens but look like rca brand maybe 3"x5" ea.).also 2-3" tweeters per channel.with crossover sealed and padded in a enclosure. also has a seperate output transistor amplifier. preamp and tuner are transistor also.It has plenty of bass, I will be cleaning it soon and planing to deoxit and lube and clean the turntable, Needle is worn so I will be looking for these too. could be the top of the line rca had back then.

This 1967-68 rca I have as per the sams I picked up a copy at the library. the Turntable has something called a IC CARTRIDGE with the pop up button.What is this? a magnetic cartridge since this circuit looks like a phono preamp although the cartridge resembles a nornal ceramic cart. I noticed the board on the schematic but where is it located,does anyone know it is a fairly small ic board.its not on the preamp chassis, could it be under the platter?I havent had time to mess with it yet. To start with it does not sound well no lleft channel could be the needle,low on one channel so I hooked an ipod to the rca jacks from the phono, sounds good and equal on both channels.Ive noticed the plastic chrome has worn off this turntable also,also makes a low hz whining noise that sounds like a sick bird right before it shuts off on last record.It does go through the record changing function and holds correct speed thoughout and a plus it does have the speed adjustor and strobe!!Heres what I have in mind I have another rca turntable from 64-65 model. without anything special.has the rca jacks on the bottom like the IC model, looks like brand new and works good, Do you think this swap its worth a shot or does this preamp need the IC circuit . Also curious why did rca shorten the spindle on the '68 model, for less records?
