Seeburg "Service Manuals"

by Ron Rich » Sun Mar 03, 2013 8:33 pm

Hi All,
Just a few words about this subject--
Seeburg published NO service manuals for machines made from 1946 through at least 1956. They did, however publish a "subscription Master Manual", for these years. The idea of this Master, was that new sheets were released showing any differences between the new and old models. In some cases, pages were superseded, and were to be replaced, and in others a new page was added. This system was continued until at least 1964. Long about 1956/7, the began issuing "dedicated" manuals for earlier models. Someone at Seeburg "compiled" them from the Master Manual. I believe the K/L series phonographs were the first to be sold with an available dedicated service manual.
At some point in time, a gent named Frank Adams purchased the copy rights from Seeburg (and other makers), and began publishing them. His company was called AMR publishing, and is now owned by Victory Glass.
Up till very recently, Richard, at Always Jukin Magazine, was selling the VG/AMR re-prints also. He has since begun to re-print them, on his own. I strongly suggest that his versions are the MOST correct, as whenever I find an error, and inform him, he corrects it instantly.
MOST of the "ePay" versions I have seen are poor copies, not only in printing quality, but also in content, as they all seem to have copied each others early (often full of errors), product.
Also note: Although the "writers" of these manuals were great writers, most of the stuff was written prior to the model's release, and the writers had no benefit from time, or repair experience, to find out what was "going wrong".
It was in view of this fact that my late friend Tony Miller,"kicked me in the arse", to write the "Seeburg Mechanism Guide", that took advantage of my more (at that time--now getting close to 50 years--man-I AM old !) then 40 years experience working on the mechs-- Ron Rich
