Seeburg S-100 noisey select motor

by ken g » Sun Sep 08, 2013 2:12 am

This little S-100 works fine after the normal repairs & stuff . However the small motor inside the credit box ? box with the service lever on it ... Makes a loud hum noise each time a selection is made . Is that normal or is there a fix for it ?

Ken,
Some level of noise is normal--
Oil--dis-assemble, clean, replace bearings in motor if worn out--
Is the screw holding the pricing unit cover tight ??

Ron please remember i have been at this for 40+ years , if it needed clean & oil i would have done that already .

I have not heard another S-100 work before to tell what this sounds like . The noisey motor turns very quick like it seems it should . Its in a small rivited together case and i dont want to cut it apart till i hear from other owners or someone who knows .

I have worked on alot of Seeburgs . I dont think they would have designed this to make this much racket . It sounds like it wants to blow up :o

Hi Ken,
I remember that they did make "some" noise--but I have no way to relate it to what you hear now--

Its a pretty loud BUZZ even with the jukebox all closed up . Sounds alot like a solenoid stuck and buzzing . At first i thought it was a solenoid somewhere but its that motor . The motor is a 27 VAC . It seems a bit odd Seeburg would let it make this noise . The motor may be worn out .
I went to youtube and tried to listen to some but the recorded quality was not good enough .
I have never had one of these little machines . They have real nice sound after a capacitor is installed on the volume control to boost the trebble just a bit .

Is this your Juke, I mean actually your personal machine? If not, is this the noise? If so, they all might do this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lS45Z2gH3U8

No , not mine . That did not really show the noise .

Anyhow .. I ended up taking the motor out and drilled off the rivets and took it apart . This is the strangest motor i have ever seen . Its not normal ! .. its hard to explain ... They used a vibrating type gadget that buzzes back & 4th that moves the armature to rotate a plastic wheel . Its stupid , bad design . It has 4 screws on the sides to adjust it . I turned those a bit and it helped .

I suppose when this was new it was more quiet .

Thanks for the suggestions and thoughts .
