Rockola 492 head scratcher

I just bought a rockola 490 that Is in beautiful shape. Someone obviously spent a lot of time refurbishing it. The guy who sold it to me said it was working great a year ago, but he tried to play it recently and it won't work. I got it cheap as a result.

When it is turned on it lights up, and the "standard pricing" and "initializing" lights come on and stay on. The "normal operation light never comes on as it is suppose to.
All the fuses are fine
It does not scan, and nothing happens it operate mode
The motors are in good shape with no jams
The amp looks great, new caps, but no sound when I rub the needle

Could it be a bad scan/op switch, or something wrong with the initialization process?

I appreciate any tips. Dr Jeck

Sadly, those are "famous" for having two re-occurring problems--
1. Battery "leakage" ruins the computer
2. Plugs on computer fail to make good contact--
Check there first--

Thanks, Ron. The battery had indeed leaked on to the board. Is this an automatic pc board destroyer, or should I replace the battery and try it out? Drjeck

Drjeck,
Sadly, it has been my luck, that 80% of the time the board is beyond practical repair -- You might try washing it--use 91 % rubbing alcohol --Remove any plug in type chips, and let it soak for a few hours--re wash again, and again, use an old toothbrush, then "blow dry" it--Sometimes this will work--
If it does--I strongly suggest that you run wires outboard, and mount the new battery outside the case, where it can do no more harm--
Good luck--

Thanks Ron. Board is fried. I called victory glass and they don't have anymore. Bummer. Now I know why I got it so cheap. Do I have any options? Can the pc boards be rebuilt/repaired? Do you know of anyone who sells them used (already tried bay and craigslist)? Can they be fabricated? Thx, dr Jeck

Drjeck,

All I can suggest is that you go ona few of the jukebox forums in Europe, there is or used to be a couple of people in the UK that did Rock Ola board repairs. Try putting a post on www.jukeboxjive.freeforums.org or you could also post on www.jukebox-world.de

Tried washing the board. No luck.

Thanks, Alan, for the tip. Maybe the UK will come through for me. Drjeck
