can't get the hood up on Rockola 460

I picked up a rockola 460 a few months ago for $50. this is my first venture into restoring a jukebox. The lock is punched out, so there's only a small hole where it used to be. I can't get the top to lift up/back and am therfore unable to get into the box to get started. i can see through the lock hole with a flashlight and there's a piece of metal there with a couple of holes in it. i gently put the tip of a thin philips into the hole and the piece of metal slides up and down. i'd hoped this might dis-engage whatever mechanism is keeping me from getting in, but no luck.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

peace...

Since this is your 1st venture, (IMHO, a good idea for any "venture" number!)--purchase the service and parts manuals for that phonograph. One or the other should show how that lock was assembled, thus giving you a clue as to how to open the machine (why, o' why do "people" do stoopid things like drilling out a service lock, when keys are available ???)( I'm always scared that when something like that has been done, that I will find many more stoopid things inside--and it's almost always true, that I do !). yeah, i've got the parts manual but so far it hasn't been much help. i need to order an owner's manual. thanks for the reminder - heading to the googles now...

thanks again!
