The pitfalls of antique collecting via on-line auction

I had been looking for a few Cobra-Matics,hoping to add a Zenith section to my phono collection. Not many, just 2 or 3 representative models,as I am slowly but surely running out of space to display them. You can imagine my glee when the auction ended and I had won a Custom Super-Phonic High Fidelity Stroboscope, in good condition, for a mere $16.50,less for shipping. My excitement quickly turned to frustration as I began getting emails from the seller, claiming to be an agent of the true seller who refuses to release the phono for that price. In desperation,I suggested relisting the item using the Best Offer option, agreeing not to tarnish her Feedback in exchange for another chance at the phono. Now all she wants to do is haggle with me off the board and has not yet offered to relist.I found and emailed to her another listing for an identical Cobra-Matic, which was won two hours later for $9.99,suggesting that she purchase the phono from her "seller"and then honor her contract to me.Her response-none so far. Her Feedback is 527 at 98.7% with a few hits for nonresponsivness.
Why do some sellers believe that their items are infinitely more valauble than they actually are?I have proven my case and her stubbornness infuriates me.I have reported her to eBay for seller non-performance and await a response.I have not yet paid for this item and hope this will not adversely effect my account.Has anyone here had a similar experience with online auctions? Can I get a witness? :x [/u]

If she doesn't sell to you, you report her as a non-selling seller. It's against eBay rules to do what she is doing.

Most old consoles and record players go for less than $30.

I had a similar experience. After winning the auction for some old 45's,the seller asked for more money.I refused to pay the extra and reported him to e-bay.They sent me an e-mail to say he had been warned not to do it again. The annoying thing was that I was unable to leave negative feedback so he won on both counts!!!!!
