Rockola 480 opto & display

I've found a replacement for the logic board, so I'm back at it with this 480. Seems I'm replacing every part except a three of the wheels and some light bulbs. Right now, the magazine rotates upon start up like the manual says it should and stops in the home position.
I need some help with what should be showing on the display. The top line shows credits and that's working properly. But the bottom line always says "100". I've tried adjusting the position of the opto board with no change. I think this line on the display should change with the magazine position like it does on the 490 and later models, but this is the first time I've seen this one register anything. Also, maybe related and maybe just the next problem, the only number on the keyboard that does anything is the "3", and that registers as a "1". Press that three times and the mech fires up, goes around twice without finding anything and stops at home. The manual doesn't say much about the opto board other than its adjustment above the encoder disc. Models 477-488 appear to be essentially the same inside. Any thoughts on where to go from here would be appreciated.

The contacts on the opto board connection from what i have seen on these models are very poor the LED should flash when the magazine rotates. Regarding the keyboard, it may be connections but most likely a problem with the profit setter and logic board. The profit setters are fairly difficult to get and seem to cause endless problems. Have you tried measuring the 9.6 vdc at the pink wire on the power supply , if its not reading correctly the manual states it causes unexplained problems in the jukebox. For example from my own experience if i put in a song number, numerals would appear on the credit display and record would not be selected until i adjusted the reading which is done via a pot on the power supply, all detailed in the manual.
If you need this translated ask RON, i hear he's fluent in Irish

Thanks for the tips. I have two of nearly everything by this point (started with two incomplete 480s). I've cleaned the contacts on both optos and tried each one. The LED does flash, but no difference. I swapped out credit units but, again, no change. I changed the voltage from 9.71 (as-found) to 9.6. Again, no change. "333" still comes up as "111", carousel rotates while the display reads "100", fails to find anything, and stops at home. By the way, it makes no difference if the opto cable is on or not. "100" still shows on the display and operation is not affected by unplugging it (the home switch contacts are separate). What can I do to make this mechanism know where it's at?

Hi
Sounds like a proble with the logic board at the front of the chassis, although i wouldn't rule out the profit setter, profit setters are hard to come and logic boards as well

hi
dont know if this will help but just brought a 488 rock-ola today not working, taking credit but thats it. I swapped an ic which I think is called hex inverter in the logic board with a spare one I brought years ago & now working fine. Ill look up number tomorrow. I have 2 spare so if anyone is desperate let me know. It is also found in hit tracker. I found this out when I finally got my friends 478 mystic working. Hit tracker isnt needed to make juke work so she was quite happy
all the best Glyn

Would this be the ic701? I have the same jukebox. After selecting, the carousel spins for a bit but never selects a record. Did the thread starter ever have any luck with his 478?

AS of this date, that 480 is one of the two worst things I ever bought (the other was an old Ford Bronco II). I never resolved the issue and shelved the project in favor of a string of older mechanical models. Good luck with yours. I'll watch this and see where it leads. Maybe I'll take another shot at mine this winter.
