Seeburg DS Kick Plate Installation

by ds100h » Sat May 26, 2012 5:50 am

I would like to replace the rusty old kick plate with a repo stainless steel kick plate. An inspection of the cabinet reveals that the kick plate fits up under the lower mesh grill. I can not see any screws or clips holding the lower mesh grill. The lower grill appears to be held in place by some type of u channel.

Does anyone have knowledge of cabinets and what the easiest way to replace the kick plate is?

I really am not looking forward at tearing the whole front of the cabinet apart to replace the kick plate :( , although this may be my only option.

Thank you
Darrell

Darrell,
Seeing as I have zero experience in this, and I am basically "lazy", I might just think about fastening this new plate directly to the old one with glue ?
One caution--if you are going to need the lay the phono on it's back--remove the mechanism first--or at least bolt it PROPERLY(!) for shipping---Ron Rich

Ron

Thanks for the idea. I attempted to just place the new one over the old one, however, the two chrome "L" angle holding pieces will not fit on the machine. An option may be to carefully cut out the area where the "two chrome "L" angle holding pieces are supposed to fit over the kick plate.

Hoping some restorer or cabinet person has an easier way than tearing the whole front of the cqbinet apart to ge at the kick plate.

Thanks
Darrell

Darrell,
No problem---I once had (a real nice guy) boss, who kept assigning me a task that I, and everyone else in the shop hated ( rebuilding AYs'/DS's). One day I asked him why did he keep me doing these--and his answer was--"--find the laziest guy, give him the worst job, and he will find a way to do it quicker/better--I'm still waiting for you--"
A few years later, I became his "boss", at another company--guess what the first job I assigned him was----he just laughed and said--"paybacks ARE hell"- Ron Rich
