Rock ola 468 Issues

by Jolly rollover » Wed Sep 07, 2016 12:09 am

Sorry if some of this has been answered before but I am not only new to the forum but new to jukeboxes themselves. I have a few issues I was wondering if someone could shed some light on for me. Thank you in advance, any help is much appreciated.

1. I have discovered why my machine was not playing the correctly selected songs and fixed that. The counter wheel (I'm sure that isn't the correct term for it) had a bunch of old selection in it. So I manually reset all of the switches on that wheel. Now if there is no selection in the machine and it is switched to on the selection arm that reads what the selected record is just continuously spins.

2. Once set, the record will play for a short while maybe 10-30 seconds and then begins skipping and repeating. My guess is maybe a bad needle, but am fairly new at working with record players as well.

3. Once a song is completed or I switch the machine to scan it will not pick the record up off the turntable. It's like it misses. The arm will return to the correct slot as if it has the record and then will continue to next selection and pick that record out and play it but it will not return the records to the slots.

The only other question I have is I will be looking for a few cosmetic parts and was wondering if any of you knew of a good place to find parts other than ebay or if a trusted seller on ebay.

Again thanks for any help. I am a newbie at this and would really appreciate any direction here.

1, Glad you got that fixed-have no idea what you could be talking about--please use terms as used in the service manual, so we can understand one another. If you don't have it--see the list of suppliers above this post in the Jukebox section.
2. You will need to figure out what's happening here-- tone arm shaft can be dry or binding--tone arm wires can be miss-routed and/or stiff, needle could be bad, needle pressure can be incorrect--
3. This is a common lack of proper oil, problem--search this list for gripper problems-- many posts on this subject here !

Hi
Regarding the first problem the continuous spinning there could be selections outstanding, otherwise clean the slip rings on the wobble plate and contacts. For the second problem apart from the needle, check the tracking pressure which is done via the spring under the tone arm but most likely the tone arm is binding because the tone arm cable is getting caught in something. For the third problem lubrication is needed. When the record is near the end point apply a bit of pressure to the gripper arm so that it doesn't come up before the record is actually gripped, if that is done a good few times it should help
