RP-20545 rpm stacking spindle problem

Hi all - I have the standard problem with my RP-205 changer. When I use the 45 rpm stacking spindle, the turntable, either, slows down or stops during the cycle. I can't seem that "sweet spot" where I raise the spindle so that it doesn't slow down and still drop the record. Should I try cleaning the idler and turret or just replace the 45 rpm turret (I undestand they just pop out and are easily replaced)?

There is more to servicing these changers than a simple turret replacement.
A complete teardown of the mechanism is usually needed after 50 years.
There is no "sweet spot" for installing the 45 RPM adapter, it should seat completely down on the spindle.
I suspect overhaul of the spindle is in order as well - I've done many of them due to binding mechanisms.
Once done, they run like clocks, not missing a beat.

The problem might be the adjustment of the small spindle record pusher. If it is adjusted to push a bit too far, the LP record hole usually is big enough that it causes no trouble. But it may push the 45 spindle too far, causing the binding. The pusher should not extend beyond the edge of the spindle ledge.
The adjustment is in the placement of the pivot of the lever that activates the pusher. Also make sure the end of the pusher is in the hole in the lever, not on the side of it, and that the lever and the end of the pusher are not bent.
