Rob-NYC wrote:Julie, I glad that you got it working. It shouldn't be that critical, but those dual speed assemblies do quite a dance to both clamp and change speed. It is still possible that the stripper plate was slightly bent outward, I can't tell from pic's.
In August 1988 my antique dealer and I delivered a 3100 i had restored. It went to a physician and his family in NJ. While there he mentioned that his wife goes to the UK several times a year and brings back English pressings of pop music. They are small hole 45 and he wondered of he could get a hole saw to allow them to be played. I aid that the machine will play small 33's..or 45's and showed him how to disable the speed change. His remark was "wow, this is quite a feat of engineering....it must have been fun to repair it" I replied "fun", well that is one word for it......"
As for early tripping, the adjustment is the black bolt seen at the lower left corner in this shot:

The fact that it is off may indicate that the tonearm was removed...for some reason. There has definitely been some tinkering going on before you got it.
Well, keep us informed.

It sounds like you "missed my point"--OIL FIRST, prior to adjusting, anything, is a MUST !! "Adjustments change, when the oil drys out !

It appears as if you have oilet most of the important points, except I don't see any mention of the turntable shaft/tailpieces--I HOPE you have filled that hole several times, as it is impossible to make that unit "adjust", whenit's dry -- Ron Rich

Oh, NO !!
The "oil hole" I am speaking of is in the "tube" that contains the workings for the record clamp unit--this "hole is on top of that shaft--looks like a bolt head, with a hole in it --this must be filled and the clamp "worked, manually" (I usually "geppetto" them with my fist--pounding on /letting it snap back, the arm that pushes the assembly) MANY times, to circulate the oil inside. Also drop oil on the springs that are wrapped on the back end of the clamp mechanism, and onto the very small round shaft the gets shoved inward.

P.S. I have an acquaintance that "swears" he uses "Marvel Mystery Oil" in that hole with extreme success --Yea, I question that ??

What can I say--you did not read the Service Manual--The load/play arm MUST be in the load position when the basket is turned !! ( and should be taped in that position when the phono is moved !!!) The arm raises the crank arms so that even IF a pin has been released, the crank arm will not hit it (or depending on how hard you "spin the basket", it won't "kiss the pin" and bend it over)--- The switch does egg-zactly what you said---- Capesh ?? I think that the speed is a tad fast, is there a way to slow the motor spinning speed?

Julie, most jukeboxes run at least a bit fast. If this one is too speedy for your taste, first check the motor pulley for rubber deposits from the idler. This is common.
If that isn't the problem, these machines can be slowed by wrapping thin tape around the flywheel to increase its diameter. It doesn't take many tuns but it should be even without any wrinkles to avoid worsening the wow and flutter.
