My Rock ola 441 wont stop spinning.

by Rock-ola-441 » Sun Mar 17, 2013 10:10 pm

Hi there.

Im having an very strange problem.
I turn the power on and the carousel starts spinning.
I can select a record,it will then play it and put it back after its been played and start spinning the carousel.
i flip the scan switch to stop,it stops.
i flip it to scan,it scans.
i flip it to operate, starts spinning endlessly.
If i disconnect a brown wire that goes on top of the wobble plate to the wobble plate switch? it will stop at the correct position after a spin.

Why wont the sweet little thing stop?

Ralf,
Very simple--either that switch near the brown wire, which serves as a "carry over switch, is being held closed, or it is defective--

Impressive.
You must be very experienced with these machines because the microswitch was stuck..
Now it works normally.
Im very pleased with your expert advice.
Thank you.
Although it wont select every record every time, but i think it might be in need of some cleaning?
One thing that bothers me is that there is a humm from the machine when turned on,its not dependent on the volume its constant and its coming from the underside of the selection buttons..?
Also there is a rumble/noise that sounds like a large echo and some thunder in the back when a record plays(kinda hard to explain),it starts when the tonearm begins to read the record, and stops when the tonearm is lifted.
Ive tried a new needle but no results.
Think of trying to locate a new cartridge and see if that helps.
Might be the amplifier also?
Someones written on the amp that its been replaced 1979 so maby its in need of repairs again?
The counter behind the tonearm says 40980 and it seems to work.

Ralf,
Glad to help--
Cleaning is helpful--
I don't remember that model in particular, but from what you are writing, I assume the latch bar solenoid is what is causing your "hum". If the phono has been "jury-rigged" to play for free, the solenoids often do that--not a "good thing" as they are an "intermittent duty" item, and subject to catching fire, if left on at all times.
I would guess that your "rumble" comes from lack of proper oil, and poor rubber mounting of the turn table motor--R/O's required a "special" white grommet, for this purpose--it's still available--see announcements above--
Amp "repairs" ?? --no way to know ?
Counter--is of no consequence--no way to know how many times it has turned over ??
