I have not posted in a while but I do visit daily.I have been busy with a new project,converting my living roon into a dedicated home theatre.The centerpiece,a Dell 50' plasma HDTV,will be arriving this week.Christmas is good.
All these upgrades have got me to thinking about USB turntables.I wondered if anyone here has had any experience with these devices.I posted some questions on another forum and somehow rekindled an ongoing fued about PC soundcards.One member recommended analog over USB.Since I'm getting one for Xmas(I sneeked a shameful peek ),I'll have the chance to compare the results from my initial samplings.
My question is should I use the same cartridge on both units in an A vs B configuration?Also,what type of microphone should I use for sampling acoustic recordings? Microphone placement?Multiple mikes?
So many questions,so many projects.As if I need another.

Wow! A 50" DELL Plasma... *cheer*. About the "USB Turntable" what exactly do you mean with that? And regarding mike recording; I have installed a turntable a few weeks ago for listening 78's through PC speakers at somebody else's computer. It was a simple setup, electronic turntable, amplifier, 2 tulip (is that correct english?) plugs -> 1 minijack plug -> Soundblaster input. Is that what you mean?

The technical details of these turntables are rather extensive.I searched ebay and found several by Ion Audio and Numark and they were [u]all getting lots of bids,except for the Buy it now listings.The contact page of both companies reveal the same headquarters in Rhode Island and world distribution addresses in UK,Germany,China,Japan,and Singapore.Members interested in recording may wish to have a look at these.

And while I'm sure it's quite attractive, I don't recommend plugging flowers onto your computer. They attract too many bees. Might I suggest a screen saver?

lol, actually here in Holland they really are called "tulp stekkers", which in english would be "tulip plugs", yes, like the flowers, but I guess in English they are called differently *grin*.

Also, because of differences in the formats, a form of limiting compression is usually needed to transfer from records to CDs.
