Rock-ola 437 turn table help

by Uponashelf » Tue Jan 29, 2013 9:20 pm

I'm trying to fix my friends Rock-ola juke box, it used to work fine then just the other day it won't play the record. After you make your selection it loads the record and the arm comes across the just slides across the record, does the platter rise up during the play mode? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank

Nope--turntable goes 'round and 'round--that's all--did you check the needle ??

Select a record and using the play/stop/scan control stop it just as the tone arm is about to hit the track-in grooves to see exactly what the cartridge and stylus is doing. As Ron says check that the stylus is there and it has a "tip" on it.

There are adjustments you can make for Needle set down (how far in to the track in area the needle sets down on the record), Cut-Off, Needle clearance above gripper arm (stops the gripper arm from wiping the needle from the cartridge) and tone arm gram pressure. (All shown in the manual) but unless someone has messed with them, they should be OK.
Also check the wires to the tone arm aren't hanging down and touching the record when it's trying to play, it's unlikely. But again don't mess with these unnecessarily as they are very fine and easily damaged

Yes the needle is there, I'm waiting on a service manual from eBay, thanks for the ideas.

Hi
Does the tone arm set down on the record, if it does and slid to the middle of the record i would say that the needle is worn and/or bent and needs replacement as previously said, similar incidents would have happened with other jukeboxes i had where the tip of the needle was basically worn down to nothing or the needle itself was bent and just ready to break
regards

The needle is about the cheapest part of a jukebox, so it'd be worth investing in a new one, even if it turns out it isn't the main cause of the actual problem.
