AMI Continental MK1

Hi everyone, can any fellow members who own or have
owned a MK1 AMI Continental pass on any handy hints,
problem areas to watch out for or any tech tips on
this machine. I have ordered a cap kit for the amp
from Vern Tisdale and have replace all the old cracked
wiring. One thing I did notice is that ocassionaly I
get a crackle from the speaker
when the machine is at rest and sometimes when
playing. Can anyone suggest what would be causing
this. Would it be coming from the
volume control, box? This has the original wires to
the cartridge. Would it be advantageous to fit a new
shielded type cable. Also this machine is fitted with
the original UK issued egg shaped Tanoy magnetic
cartridge which I think gives a good sound when
playing my original
50s and 60s 45s, but I dont have anything to compare
it to. Some people dont like these cartridges and
suggest replacing it with a Stanton. I would welcome
any suggestions in this area.

thanks

Gary
