Are you sure?

Most classical music on 78 was recorded on 12" records, placed in a book-like record album (the origin of the term "album").

Check out the thrift stores.

I haven't gone shopping in a couple of years, but I've seen a gazillion of them. I forgot that I had a stack of about 500 albums stacked in a corner in my bedroom. Wow, I forgot there were some 78 boxed sets in there. I think they are neat because they include alot of information and commentaries. Only a few of mine are 10", while the rest are 12".

I've got one big honking set which I thought had 78's, but they were thick 33's. It's got 16 albums and each one has its own cover and commentary like the last three pics below. The thing probably weighs a good five pounds+ by itself and is about 3" thick.

They are out there, and for the most part, I've ignored them because I already had the recordings on 33's. One of our local thrift stores used to have a "record sale," 10 cents per album, so you could get a 10-album boxed set for $1.00.

Of course, you can't get as much music on a 78, so your boxed set is gonna be limited, but those 33 boxed sets offer a variety of flavors, covering a wide spectrum of music.

Okay, my post added absolutely nothing to the original post, I'm just babbling because I have the week off and nothing better to do. --BB
