Shipping a Wurlitzer 2104

by mrjukedad » Sun Sep 18, 2016 1:59 am

Hi , I'm new to the forum (this is my first post). I'm buying my first Jukebox - a Wurlitzer 2104. I need to transport it about 170 miles to get it home. I've seen other posts about moving Jukes (viewtopic.php?t=6652) and they're really helpful but I've not found anything specific to the 2104 (or the 1900 or 2000 that would be kind of similar).

I know to remove the records, secure the tonearm, secure the doors, and wrap it up and then wrap it some more. I plan to move it upright secured inside a van with a tail lift so that I don't have to fuss about with ramps. Is there anything specific that I need to do with the 2104 (e.g. specific bolts that need to be fastened) for shipping?

Thanks.

Going from memory--yes. There are four "wing nuts" under the mechanism shelf--one in each corner-- that should be tightened, and a bit of bailing wire should be run through the holes in the nut pairs, to restrict them from loosing.
One other thing in general--check all components are secured in place, not just sitting in place--cause they will go flying ! Ron Rich

Thanks for the quick reply Ron. That's really helpful. A couple of follow up questions if you'll indulge a newbie. :D

I'm looking at the Service Manual for the 2104. When you say the mechanism shelf is that the shelf that the Record Changer sits on? In photos and diagrams, I can see that part of the record selector sits on a shelf and there is more of the mechanism below the shelf in what I'll call the middle 1/3 of the unit. Is that the shelf that you're talking about? If so it looks to be a fixed shelf. So when you say to tighten the wing nuts do you mean so that they are just not loose or is there a floating mechanism that I'm trying to lock down for transport?

I will definitely check that ll the components are secured. I'm guessing you mean the amp, coin mech, etc?

Hi Gary,
Yes--the whole mechanism "floats" on 4 springs (or it should) ! Often when transported without tightening the four (captured) wing nuts, the springs go "flying", and the mech gets beaten up--sometimes beyond practical repair ! You should be able to view these wing nuts, with the lower rear door removed. Ron Rich
