Rock Ola 460 - selection problem

by Luc_from_Belgium » Sat May 14, 2011 6:45 pm

I'm trying to get a Rock Ola 460 up an running again.
The selection of a number is not working as it should.
When entering the digits in the keyboard, the lights indicating first digit, second digit, wrong selection, ... are working as they should, so I don't think there something wrong in the keyboard itself.
If the third digit is 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 nothing further is happening. The only thing I can do is pushing the reset button, to make another choice.
If the third digit is 0, the selection arm is rotating to the correct position, but the "write-in" action itself is not happening. Both relays (stop and write) in the red transparant plastic housing are switching at that moment. Pushing the reset button, is not possible when the third digit is 0.
On the control PCB (the one where wiring from keyboard is going to and from where a bundle of wires is going to the write in/read out disk), I have checked all diodes. They are still OK to my opinion.

Is anyone having an idea what can causing this issue?

Luc,
This is just a guess, as I do not have the manual for that model, no do remember which "system" was used in it--
If you have the square "write-in" PCB with the two long (in-out) plugs on it, and they are black, in color, they have a high failure rate. What happens to these, is the "plastic" expands, and the pins do not make good contact. This leads to all sort of problems, and must be corrected by changing them to the white colored ones. Ron,
both in- and out plugs are white coloured, so this is OK I guess. Although it seems that each wire going from keyboard to this PCB has a unique (combination of) colour (s), it's very difficult to determine which set of diodes, resistors and IC on this PCB is corresponding with a certain number. At least I guess there should be a direct relation between digits 0-9 and the set of components on the PCB, since there are also 10 sets to be found on the PCB.
If you look to the PCB, can I assume that the top group is corresponding with key 0, fhen 1, .. ending with key 9 as the bottom group on the PCB?

Best regards,

Luc
