Vending and credit accumulation

by SteveFury » Wed Sep 11, 2013 4:32 am

Hi I have a Seeburg AY160 with the single pricing unt.. and curious about something.

The front panel next to the coin slot says "NICKELS DIMES QUARTERS HALF DOLLARS UP TO ONE DOLLAR TOTAL". It's the "Up to one dollar total" which I find confusing. The way I read it, the wording suggests that the machine will accumulate the total of any combination of the denominations, up to one dollar total.

But that's not the case. There is no credit accumulation with the single pricing unit. You drop the dime in, the appropriate solenoid in the single pricing unit flips the spring switch on the rotor. Any additional dimes only trip the same solonoid which does nothing since the actuator is already tripped by the 1st dime.

Without credit accumulation you can drop 10 dimes one after another and it will only register the 1st one and the following 9 drops into the coin bag without a vend.

So what is with the "Up to one dollar" sign? Was this particular pricing note used in conjunction with a different pricing unit, one which could accumulate credits up to a dollar total?

Dumb question I know, but one I've been pondering.

Steve,
That's why I ask for the WHOLE model number of a phonograph--it indicates which credit unit the phono left the factory with--+ other stuff--so what is the model number of your "Y" ?

Steve,
You should have a type USPU-1 pricing unit in that phono--you should be able to accumulate using it ?
See the AY xxxU service manual/I&O Manuals-- Ron Rich

Hi Ron.
I have the SPU1H pricing unit. It does not accumulate. For example I can drop more than one dime in at a time, one after another, then make my 1 selection and no more credits.

I am wondering if someone put a front panel coin instruction in which should be paried with an accumulating type such as the type CAU1/CAU5. I am thinking my front panel coin instructino next to the coin slot should say somthing like "Make slections after each coin" or something similar.

Steve,
As I attempted to say above, some "do-do-bird" has installed the incorrect pricing unit ( and maybe TSU ?) in your phonograph. You should have a type USPU-1 "Accumulating" pricing unit in that phono, according to the serial number plate (U indicates a USPU-1, or UDPU-1 {very rare} model was installed by the factory).
Yes, the correct glass for a non-accumulating type unit (SPU's) said "Make selections after depositing each coin". Ron Rich
