Just picked up a Seeburg 100J, whats it worth?

by brooksthepro » Thu Apr 25, 2013 11:04 pm

Co-worker of mine just let me have this for super cheap. She said she bought it close to new 50 something years ago and its been sitting covered in her garage unused for the last 30. She was afraid of turning it on because its been so long, she said it worked when she put it away though. Would I be safe trying to turn it on? If I just wanted to re-sell it, what do you think its worth? Not sure if I want to keep, restore it or just re-sell. Im new to jukeboxe's. Thanks.

Methinks that the lady got "took" some 50 years ago--that is no where "near new" !
Check above for "Tony Miller's web site", and you will see what it should look like--
Value ? Depends on if the correct "un-abused" parts are installed, their condition, and the buyer's interest. Range is $300 to about $3000----
NO, like anything else "electronic", it is probably not safe to plug in 50 year old unit without first doing some basic checks--At a minimum I would check all fuses, for proper values, all electronics for signs of leakage, and all power cords for "fraying", or loss of insulation. I would fire it up with the rectifier tube removed first, and a "dim bulb tester", in series with the power cord.

I paid $250 for it, ok deal? I kinda made an impulse buy... I will have it back at my house tonight and see what I can find out. Its way too big for my house right now so I think I might just try and get it working and sell it.
