My Seeburg SMC1 is having volume issues. First off, is this juke supposed to be able to volume down to zero? I ask because my unit will only volume down so far... it's not loud, but not quiet either. I am also having issues where the left channel will not increase in volume until I turn up past a certain level then it "kicks in"... same thing happens when I lower volume...it hits a certain level then drops to a very low level where it stays... while the right channel will consistently lower in volume to a certain level.

I assume the pot is going bad. The part # is 51-318372. I've looked but I can't find a replacement online. Does anyone know of a comparable replacement and where I can get it?

Yes, volume should go down to zero--Check that all "pins" in both sides of the plug are inserted tightly-- Which model amp is installed in your phono ? Are you using a motor to turn that pot ?

There is no motor to the pot.. if I go so far in one direction right side goes loud and then out...but then the left comes in... almost as if there are two sides to the pot that no longer match up... all wires are plugged in correctly... my guess is down to bad pot. The amp is an SHP3.

I would guess that your guess is good--I have never attempted it on that type of pot, but you can separate the older style pots ,and fix the broken "Gang" post.

I just checked with Vern and unfortunately he does NOT carry replacement volume pots for the SHP3 amp...



Any other suggestion? Do you happen to know the value of the pot? Perhaps I can get an equivalent at digikey.com or mouser.com?

Welp, according to the schematics it appears we're dealing with a 25K dual-gang pot... could I use just about any 25K dual-gang pot here? I suppose I should pull the pot and measure the shaft length and diameter... am I missing anything?

Check with him again--Be sure to tell him that I said, "I sure don't know what he's smokin today--but the TSA-10 type pot, will work, just fine, on SHP amps !"(As long as you don't want to use a "PRVC") (The LATE SHP type, will NOT work on TSA amps)

P.S.
If you want a used pot, anyone of the "usual suspects" probably can supply it as a complete unit, that includes the cord and plug for the amp. This can be removed from any "160" model from the USC-1, on up. Ron Rich

If you had done what I told you, there would be one on it's way to you now--
I just talked to him--contact him again, or go on his website and fill in an order for a TSA Pot, (it will have "extra" connections--just leave them blank)
and it will be shipped ! I don't think that the one you found will work--Ron Rich

We must have shook Vern up--a little, as he seldom Emails--usually calls--
Now all you need to do is purchase one of our new "wiz-bang" MCU's (from me,of course !) and that SMC will "fly" !!!

I've noticed that my selected tunes (while in FREEPLAY mode) do NOT play in the order I select them, but rather randomly.

For example, lets say I select 4 songs...

Whip It
Green Onions
House of the Rising Sun
We Will Rock You

...lets say I enter them in that order. The juke will play Whip It first (unless I am real fast and make my 2nd selection before the 1st starts...then sometimes it will start with my 2nd selection in that case!)... but then all the remaining songs play in what appears to be a random order rather than the order I selected them.

Is this normal operation?

Seeburgs all play in the "order found" starting on one end and going to the other. The only exceptions are the "A", mech, "album play" mechs, and the SMC type.
