United Jukebox UPD-100 Trouble

by Danno » Fri Oct 02, 2015 10:51 pm

Hi,
I'm having a problem with my United UPD-100 and it has me stumped. The carousel does not stop after a selection finishes playing like it should. It just keeps turning until another selection is made. The record is put back in the carousel and then it just keeps spinning as if it's looking for a selection but since there is none it just keeps turning and turning until the main power switch is shut off. I have a manual, which has a troubleshooter, but there is nothing in it that addresses this problem. Any suggestions where to look?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Danno,
WoW--a "D" model--I have never seen one of these--a few "C's", a lotta "B's", and a few 's--"A's".
Going from my great, but not too long memory, there is a "scan control" devise of some nature on the phono. For some reason, I'm thinking it consists of two coils and a two-toothed ratchet. Upon making a selection on coil pulls the ratchet, closing a set of points, that either directly supply motor power or pull a relay that supplies that power. IT MAY have a mechanical devise to reset that ratchet, or it may be electrical in nature--sorry--just do not recall more. Schematic should show this -- Ron Rich

Thanks Ron,
I'll have time tomorrow to check the schematic and explore it some more. I wish the manual was more detailed and had a description of the sequence of events that take place chronologically when a selection is made like I've seen some other manuals have.
