AMI (F-80) Transfer Mech Help Needed

by CoinOpCollector » Tue Jan 13, 2015 10:05 pm

I am working on an AMI F-80, and currently working on the transfer mech.

The transfer arm assembly (L-345) and transfer arm (L-402) were completely gummed up. I removed, cleaned and put moly on, and that part is now very smooth.

I am having a problem now with Record Release Cam Gear (H-2004). Trunion Drive Gear (H-2005) synching with the camshaft and gear assembly (H-2097).

With the record release cam gear in place, the transfer arm assembly will rise a little bit before stopping. It appears the Trunion Drive Gear cannot synch with the H-2097 gear assembly. If I remove the Record Release Cam Gear, the transfer arm will rise up, and rotate correctly. If I try and put the Record Release Cam Gear on (aligning slot with H-20007 Record Release Cam, it doesn't quite fit in.

I am wondering
1) If the black H-20007 Record Release Cam should rotate inside the Trunion Bearing & pin assembly. (IE more gummed up parts)
2) If not gummed, what is the recommended alignment procedure for the gears?

Basically, on this type of gripper assembly, "everything" SHOULD "float". What I normally do is to stop the record transfer mid way (no record gripped) and saturate the whole thing with 20 wt. ND oil. Be sure to "work it in", and to get some between the two end gears also--
I think it only fits one way--- Ron Rich

I think you are correct.
I pulled up an old AMI patent, and it is very close to the transfer mech mine has, but most of the parts are the same, and it has a real good explanation as to how everything works.

I will pull it all apart tonight, and get it all cleaned out.

It always amazes me as to how smart the jukemakers were to get everything working so smoothly - with pretty complicated movements!
