I attended the M.M.E. show this past Sunday in Wayne New jersey. There was a very nice turn out. It seems like the hobby is picking up some steam on the east coast. Lots of really nice old phonographs, music boxes, assorted musical gadgets, tons of parts, accesories and related memorobilia and enough 78s, cylinders, & transcription disks to boggle the mind. Met some old friends and made a few new ones. Picked up some really nice acoustic era 78s to add to my collection. Well worth the trip from Brooklyn.

Well, you folks in the USA certainly know how to enjoy yourselves. At least there are regular shows over there and seem well attended with lots of good stuff to buy.
In the UK we're now down to ONE dedicated Vintage Communications Fair per year and the last one was so uninspiring that there is no likelihood that we'll ever get back to two per year again! The venue has been relocated three times in less than 2 years and most people wouldn't have been made aware of the changes either.
I wish I could say that there were a lot of machines for sale too but that wouldn't be true either. It's always the same faces with the same stuff, some of which you will have seen on Ebay throughout the year, most of it you probably wouldn't care to though!
There is truthfully very little really exciting stuff coming onto the market here.....an antique dealer remarked to me the other day that I'd "have to wait for a few of the old 'uns to die off to get the really good stuff now". Well I'm off to check the local orbituaries.......joking!

Read your messages and started to wonder again about something I thought of earlier... do you think it would be interesting to start an international calender of events? (ofcourse related to the collectors categories on PhonoLand). For example in combination with a forum category where people can post events (and place replies about what they think of the event)?
I would need input from visitors to keep such a calendar so therefor I'm checking to see if ppl would be interested...

Ok, but this is only for USA shows... I mean a calendar of large events around the world. Like here in Holland we have 2 major events a year called "De Verzamelaarsbeurs". Perhaps this is interesting for people abroad aswell. Especially the ability to post events for the calendar here would create an "all-in-one" collectors meeting place for information, chat, and event info...
But I'm not sure... just curious what others think about it before I put loads of work into programming such a calendar.

I would be glad to contribute my time to this effort. My computer skills are limited but I would help in any way I could. Hope you get it going.
