Hello,

I am having an issue with my LPC-1 that may just be gunky parts but it's first time it has happened. When I select a record I noticed that the record did not sit into the turntable. At first I thought that it was the lever that lifts the record into play since this has been slow in the past and just required some warming up and oil. However, upon further inspection it seems that there is a bar (for lack of a better term...I do not know the name of this part) that slides back allowing the record to be put in place that is moving much to slow. As a result, the record hits it, the tone arm and turn table clamp down, then the record is automatically rejected.

I have attached a picture of the problem with notes on it. I noticed there is a spring that is on the bar that seems to not really be doing much of anything, maybe that is the issue? Or it is just moving slow and I need to keep warming it up and moving it manually (been doing that for over and hour and still nothing). When I use my finger to push the bar back, the record falls into place and everything works so I'm curious is anyone else has any ideas or has had this issue before.

Ok after tinkering a little more, I have more info. I pushed the bar in with my finger and the record played normally. Then, when it came time to reject at the end, the bar extended back out but the spring did not. I heard a clicking sound and I push the spring so it fully extended. When I did that, it started to scan normally. I am thinking maybe the spring is the issue? Would this cause the bar to not pull back quickly enough? Still a little stumped...

The silver (chrome) shaft is the "safety plunger". It's purpose is to prevent the mech from going into scan unless a record has fully lowered into the rack.

The oil in the bearing on the "bar" you pushed is probably gummy. Try heating it with a soldering iron while manually working it and then lubing it with light oil.

While I agree with most of what Rob wrote--I strongly advise that one should NOT "heat" any Seeburg spring, with "anything"!
Doing so risks the possibility of changing the tension of the spring--
If "gummy" the safety plunger should be cleaned with a "Plastic Safe" -Safety solvent ( watch out for the records !!!--don't axk !! !!), and re-lubricated with 20 wt. ND oil. Ron Rich

As per Rob-NYC's suggestion I heated up, not the safety plunger itself but the small wheel on the bottom of the piece that I was pushing back (see picture). That seemed to do the trick. When I tried again today it was slow, but not nearly as slow as before. As per Ron's suggestion I did not heat the spring or the shaft in any way to avoid messing with the spring. Seems to be working ok hopefully it was just gummed up a bit. Thanks for the help!
