Thanks for the info clones. I am going to mess with it a little more when I get back home. What bugs me is that this portion worked woke I had it on a rack. It only stopped once I put it back in! So either I damaged, misaligned, or lost something or it picked s great time to go out! Any way, I'll keep you informed on the progress.

I am still stumped! I think I have cleaned everything well enough and it all seems to be aligned but the write in solenoids are still not firing. Neither of them. Clones, I haven't checked the two relays you mentioned, so I will try to mess with them next. Ron, I am fairly certain the solenoid on the selector is working as it works when I manually select a pin. Just to be sure, could someone take a look at these photos and let me know if everything looks right? Two questions: two of the wipers are soldered together but no wire coming from them. Should they be connected anywhere else? I also have a read out carriage with two solenoids on it as a spare (damaged the carriage), can they be used if its determined mine are both bad?

Hi
Yes the two wipers are connected together with no wires coming from them, and yes you can use the read out coils, i took a few photos of a write in arm i have as a spare, i still think its a bad plug connection somewhere or something to do with the realys in the credit unit

Hi Ed,
Since I do not have the manual, or the machine, in front of me, and since I do not know which model RO has which system--I'm just guessing !
If you have dual writ-in carriages on that phono, have you checked each WI coil's resistance ? If, when a selection is entered, and the WI motor stops, does the motor start/run/override, coil (3rd WI coil) get ANY pulse ( put your hand on it and feel as someone makes a selection) ? If not, I would suspect a plug connector, or a dirty relay ( "ADR", or, if used on that model, Write-in relay)( have you read the above "how to clean relays--" ?). One quick check,of the power supply is to "pull a pin" and see if the read-out hammer can reverse it ? Does that WI system consist of a "ballast lamp" in the circuit ? If so, is it lighting as the motor stops ?
As for cleaning the wiper rings-- I have run into several RO's that the ONLY way I could get a write in pulse to work, was by using Deoxit-5 on the rings ! ( motor start coil ALWAYS "pulsed", however)--- You may have one of these ?? Ron Rich

Clones and Ron,
Success! At least for now. I cleaned the write in relay contacts slightly and the WI coils now both fire! Thank you so much. However, I am now noticing the RO doesn't always reset the pin after play. For instance, I select a6 ,WI regesiters and indexes. But the pin isn't reset. After the "song" is over, RO continues around and pays the same selection. This time the pin is reset and returns home. I also noticed that sometimes the small pin on what I'm calling the home switch sometimes gets stuck in as I mentioned in an earlier post. Any thoughts. Again ,thanks so much for helping me.

Hi
Re lever not being reset I would say microswitch 2 is out of adjustment or read out coil may be faulty, is it the same for B sides. Again clean slip rings and contact bades on read out side. Re other problem the swich may be dirty or adjust switch and copper helper spring so that when there are no selections the switch should be released

Ed,
The pin should be "canceled" at the start of a selection, not the end. If what you say is true, your slip rings are still "dirty" !
As for what you have referred to as the "home switch"--it is actually the RO motor start/run switch--wired in parallel to the "carry-over" slip ring.
If you "adjust" the copper helper spring, be extremely careful, as those are "famous" for being broken !

Clones, yes it happens on both sides.

Ron, I misspoke. When it does reset, it happens at the right time.
Sometimes it has to take a second trip around to reset the pin.

You're not being redundant. I'm being lazy! I had to order some deoxit. Problem with living in a small town! I'll deoxit every thing when I get some! Thanks.

Guys, I cleaned the slip rings with doxit and everything seems to be working properly on a more consistent basis now! If I may add one more question....I've noticed that sometimes the WI will start before I finish making the selection. For example, If I were to select A6, the WI will begin as soon as the A is selected and register and select A0! From there the process works as normal. This also intermittently happens for other selections. The letter doesn't matter but it always registers at 0. Is this an issue in the pushbuttons? Like the 0 key is making contact when it shouldn't?

I am honored! Although I had to Google the significance of your very specific prize! I also assume some cleaning of the button mechansim will do the trick. I'll be looking for the check in the mail. Thanks

Hi
The last time I had trouble with a keyboard assembly as you described I checked every wire and solder joint and more importantly I removed the entire keyboard washed with ammonia solution rinsed and dried.
Its alot of hassle but worth it
