Hi everybody,

currently we are trying to find out about an unknown jukebox. It must be US made.
http://www.jukebox-world.de/Forum/Archiv/USA/Dayton.htm
Regarding the design it must be a 1920s model but even that is not for sure.
The sprocket used is very remarkable and was actually from a bicyle company.

Anybody knows more?

Kind regards - Hildegard

Looks like a Capehart. Probably built around 1928.

Thanks, ken.
I will ask somebody who knows the Capehart mechs well.
So far I never saw this Dayton sprocket wheel in a Capehart.
The year you mention could be right.

Kind regards - Hildegard

Hello Hildegard/Ken,

I looked at the early Capehart jukeboxes and the only cabinets that came close were the 1935 Capehart A & B.
I have some some basic research and it would seem that The Thomas Manufacturing Company of Dayton Ohio produced a number of products that were used in the phonograph market from around 1911 until the the early 1920's.
The items were The Dayton Motor, The Dayton Tone Arm and the Dayton Sound Box.
Hidegard you are correct by the Dayton Spocket it was used on bicycles and was produced by a sewing machine company called the Davis Sewing Machine Company of Dayton Ohio.

I hope this helps your research.

Regards
Alan

Thank you Alan, for the details.
The chance that the Thomas Manufacturing Co. was involved is pretty high, I think.
I hope one day we will find out if they made the complete jukebox or just delivered parts. We'll see if more ideas will come.

Kind regards - Hildegard

Hi All,
"Dayton" is still in use as a brand name for motors, and other electrical products here in the USA. I think, but am not sure, that the name is owned by one of the largest wholesale supply houses here, as they do carry all of the "Dayton" stuff I have seen. ( www.granger.com ) Ron Rich

Hi Ron and all,
thanks for the information. I realised that dayton shows up a lot when using this word with google.

I got an aswer from the Capehart specialist. He agrees it could be an Amperion mechanism but modified.
So maybe it's a jukebox made of others? Aftermarket maybe?
The Amperions were built early 1930s.
