Seeburg LPC-480 problem

by TriggerHippie » Wed Mar 06, 2013 12:45 am

Hi, I've been trying to figure out what's wrong with my parents Seeburg LPC-480. I've spent some time with the service manuals, and haven't been able to diagnose things properly. It's been working fine since the early 90's when they bought it. A few months ago we turned it on and found whenever you would put a quarter in the slot it would't give you a credit for the a song. The unit scans fine, just not registering coins. Any ideas?

That's a start, I saw where that fuse was located when I was working on it earlier, but didn't check it. I'll check it tomorrow and hopefully it will be an easy fix. Thanks Ron!

In most cases, just changing the fuse, won't "cure" your problem--got to find out why it "blew" and correct that situation---
BTW, I strongly urge that you not "over-fuse" it--Maximum size is 1/2 amp, slow blow--better is a 4/10 slow blow--Ron Rich

Were you talking about the fuse in the APC? If so, I did find one blown fuse, and I did replace it. Now the unit registers coins, and allows me to make a selection, but it won't pick up and play a record. New mystery.

The pricing unit. I meant APU. Sorry about that.

If the 1/2 amp fuse in the APU blew--and the ITS is NOT connected, check coin switch operation--
Do you have the "trouble shooting guide" for that model ? If so, you can use it to pinpoint where your problem lies--or, remembering it's "generic", use the late Tony Millers site (see above) to trouble shoot--

When you say "Not connected" you are saying that I should remove the 1/2 amp fuse before I check the coin switch operation? I just want to make sure I don't burn my parents place down.

I've been using the troubleshooting guide over at jukeboxwiz. I'll also check Tony Millers site.

Thanks again Ron, you've been a great help so far!

Yes--either turn off the power, or remove the plug, or the fuse--first !
I was talking about the Income Totalizer System (ITS), before.

Ok, will do!

Does every unit definitely have an Income Totalizer? I was looking for it last week, and thought maybe the APU Pricing Unit was the same thing, but from the pictures I see there are quite a few differences.

So I ended up pulling out all the connections on the Tormac Control Center and reseating them, that actually did the trick. Now it selects a record and plays it.

However the record played really really slow upon being selected. Eventually after running the unit for about forty minutes and adjusting the speed control I was able to get things running regularly. Turning the unit off and turning it back on didn't replicate that problem. So I'm going back over there tomorrow to see if it has the same problem starting up.

Thanks again!

It will, if it gets cold--Do NOT "play" with the speed control pot--very delicate--Phono needs proper oiling--

That makes sense, I remember growing up we'd really only run it when we'd hosted parties during the Christmas season, and it would usually have that problem. I'll look into oiling the phono.

Thanks again a ton Ron, you've been a great help!
