Magnavox Astrosonic Console: Question

by stacy f » Tue Aug 14, 2007 6:25 pm

I purchased one of these machines recently from a local thrift shop, and I absolutely love it! Only problem is,I have no idea how to find out how old it is, i don't see any identifiable serial numbers, and the phono (micro matic) needs a new needle. I find that this console does not necessarily have a universal needle.... but I don't know how to go about figuring out which one to buy.

Anyone who is familiar with these machines and can offer some advice would be so greatly appreciated!
Thanks~! Stacy

A photo would help. Be sure the record changer is shown.

Micromatic needle

Hello...
Check out my posting of 3/7/2006. That may help with the needle. In most cases, I've seen date stickers inside on the radio/amp chasis like "9/63" (Sept '63). While you have the back off, you can also see what turntable you have, usually starting with a W. W-620XXX, etc., on the underside in fairly large numbers.
