wurlitzer 2204 carousel problem

by ann harte » Sun Jun 05, 2016 9:28 pm

my wurlitzer works great but every now and then when a selection is made the carousel goes into motion for about a quarter of a turn and stops and reverses for about a quarter turn and plays whatever record it stops on.
Any help would be great.
Ann

Hi Ann,
Do you have a service manual--if so, look for the "back-stop pawls" One, or both of these is dirty on your phonograph--these MUST be kept clean, and dry (zero lubrication). Do not operate it till this problem is fixed, as it can cause more problems ! Do not attempt to "adjust" them, while dirty ! Ron Rich

Ron thank you. I cleaned them the best I could and it seems to have worked. To clean them well do you have to detach the carousel?

Hi Ann,
If no one has "lubed" them, no--just brushing/blowing carefully ( don't want to upset the springs), is usually enough--
