What is a Seeburg AY 160 worth

by ddfleck » Sat Apr 30, 2016 7:28 pm

Hello,

I'm planning to sell my Seeburg AY 160 and trying to figure out what it's worth. The capacitors were replaced in 2003 and it all works. Occasionally one speaker crackles I think due to a loose wire I never fixed. The outside is in decent shape, but not perfect. A few scratches and one of the crowns is cracked.

Any rough idea what it's worth these days?

Thanks,
Dan

Dan, when people ask about prices I suggest using the E-bay 'advanced' categories. Check for both completed and sold prices of machines in your range: Q-AY-DS. I don't consider E-bay to be authoritative when it comes to purchases with so many variables ie: serviced vs restored, but today those prices have become currency so that effectively establishes the "ballpark" values.

Guyz,
IMHO, 90 % of the eBay offers are sellers "trolling for suckers" ! Prices vary allover the map. Descriptions are more often wrong, or exaggerated, sometimes to the point of ridiculousness. I also find that MOST of the phono's for sale, are just cosmetically re-done--not necessarily in the original fashion, with little or nothing done to the mechanism ( other then an air gun pointed to it), or the internal electronic units ( caps, changed, MAYBE, in the last 25 years ?). In other words--NONE, are what I consider, "Re-stored", while some MIGHT be considered to be, "re-furbished" ?
Also most sellers, like the original poster here, do not indicate the correct model number of the phono. In this case, "AY-160" is the series number for the cabinet--maybe, if still equipped with a 33TASU. Ron Rich

Ron

All I have ever seen them called is AY100 or AY160, so what is the correct model number, I have a Q160 that is a model SH-2. What does the SH-2 mean (S=single pricing and H=half dollars and 2=160)?

Darrell,
The service manuals, and/or I&O manuals, 'splain that on each model. In the case of the "Y" models--the "A" stands for Autospeed, the S for Single pricing unit, the H, for half-dollar coin slot, and the 2 for the 2nd version of the SPU. IMHO, this can change the value substantially, of the phonograph. Ron Rich
